From the beautiful and historic city of Cape Town with its backdrop of iconic Table Mountain to the legendary Greater Kruger National Park, home of the fabled Big Five and one of the most celebrated wilderness areas on Planet Earth, South Africa is one of Africa's best-loved safari destinations. Now you can enjoy the best of the "Rainbow Nation" with us on one, epic safari...

There's no doubt about it, South Africa is tops when it comes to creating incredible safari memories and exploring what has to be one of the most beautiful and diverse nations in Africa, if not the world. So, we've created an eight-night itinerary that combines the best of its two biggest destinations - Cape Town and the Greater Kruger National Park!

Kicking off in South Africa's Mother City you'll stay at the beautiful and conveniently located PortsWood Hotel at the entrance to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront - a wonderful development adjacent to the harbour which offers exceptional shopping, restaurants, things to see and do and is also the departure point for trips out to the infamous Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner.

The PortsWood is no stranger to history - its lobby and restaurant are built around a 300-year-old well and prison cells that held inmates destined for Robben Island. With its own wellness centre, sparkling pool, cocktail bar and 24-hour room service, the PortsWood is ideally positioned in the heart of the action while offering easy access to a range of amazing activities, day trips and tours.

Things to do and see...

We've included some amazing day-trips and tours into our itinerary so that all you have to do is relax and enjoy the experience of being shown some of the highlights of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula and the neighbouring winelands.

For example, you'll have a full-day tour of Cape Town that includes ascending the majestic Table Mountain (weather permitting) where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular views in South Africa, before embarking on a guided city tour taking in Signal Hill, the colourful Bo Kaap (formerly the Cape Malay quarter) and Castle of Good Hope. You'll top the day off with a sunset cruise on the beautiful yacht, the Spirit of Victoria.

You'll also have the option of spending the day in the Cape Winelands on a guided tour, visiting some of the most lauded wine estates in South Africa where you can sample exquisite vintages and enjoy wonderful food. Also included is a full-day tour of the Cape Peninsula, taking in the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, the scenic Chapman's Peak drive, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Cape Point Nature Reserve, where you'll have lunch overlooking the ocean.

Off to the wilderness...

After four nights at the PortsWood it's time to venture into the South African wilderness in search of the Big Five - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard! After a short, direct flight from Cape Town International Airport to the South African safari capital of Hoedspruit (pronounced "hood-sprate") you'll be collected on arrival and transferred to the beautiful Kambaku Safari Lodge in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve - part of the Greater Kruger National Park with no fences between it and this legendary reserve.

At just over 148,000 acres, the Timbavati is one of South Africa's most celebrated private reserves bordering the Kruger Park and offers exceptional game viewing all year round. During your four-night stay at Kambaku Safari Lodge you will be treated to morning and afternoon/evening game drives each day on an open safari vehicle with a qualified and experienced safari guide and tracker.

You can also take advantage of a wonderful range of spa treatments and therapies during your stay and children can join the dedicated Kambaku Kubs kids' program and learn all about wild Africa and the amazing wild animals and plants around them. Kambaku Safari Lodge also offers guided walking safaris giving you the chance to experience the thrill of exploring the African wilderness on foot.

With just eight beautiful, thatched chalets located around a central lounge and dining area, with a swimming pool and spa on site, Kambaku Safari Lodge is all about relaxation with friends and family while enjoying an immersive safari experience in the heart of the African bush. Each chalet has its own private viewing deck, luxurious en-suite bathroom, overhead fan and mosquito nets around a king or twin beds.

All meals are included, with a sumptuous breakfast offered on return from your morning game drive, high tea served in the afternoons before departing on your afternoon/evening game drive and a wonderful three-course dinner in the boma, under the stars besides a crackling fire when you return.
