Mozambique

SOUTHERN AFRICA'S BEST-KEPT SECRET...

With its endless, pristine white sand beaches, gorgeous island archipelagos, impossibly turquoise ocean and wonderful sub-tropical climate, the Southern African nation of Mozambique has been hailed as one of the best emerging beach destinations in the world.

Easily accessed either directly or via South Africa, and perfect for combining with a traditional safari in the world-renowned Kruger National Park and its legendary neighbouring private game reserves, Mozambique offers incredible beach escapes along its impressive Indian Ocean coastline.

From the breathtaking Bazaruto Archipelago - a marine reserve off the coast of Vilanculos with a collection of islands set like glistening gems in a shining sea - to the stunning beaches of Inhambane, Tofo and Ponta Mamoli, this is the home of the secretive dugong, some of the best, most pristine reef systems in Africa and incomparable deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling.

Historically, Mozambique is a cultural melting pot offering a wonderful blend of Portuguese, Arabic and African influences that are reflected in its wonderful food, music and warm hospitality. It's an untouched paradise with far fewer tourists than you'll find anywhere else on the eastern coastline of Africa, making it one of the sub-continent's best-kept secrets.

We recommend adding a day or two to your beach vacation to explore the historic and vibrant capital of Maputo and the Maputo Special Reserve.

Mauritius

THE VANILLA ISLE

One of the most well-known of the Indian Ocean islands and certainly one of its most popular, Mauritius has a long and fascinating history and has been influenced by a range of cultures, from Arabic, African and Asian to French and English.

Mauritius was first inhabited by Arab and Malay sailors, followed by the Dutch in the 17th century, and then the French in the 18th century. It became a British colony in 1810 and gained independence in 1968. So it really offers a blend of incredible influences.

Its volcanic past has created soaring peaks and dramatic mountain scenery, fringed by soft white sand beaches and warm, azure waters. Renowned for its range of luxurious beach resorts and golf courses, it's also famed for growing vanilla and sugar cane, which it exports across the world. Mauritian cuisine is a reflection of its multi-cultural society, with lots of Creole spice and fabulous flavours.

The island is also home to a wonderful array of fauna and flora, from luscious plant species and rare endemic birds to a plethora of marine species that make scuba diving and snorkelling an absolute must. From the bustling and scenically beautiful capital of Port Louis to gorgeous Grand Baie, Mauritius is also a shopping and leisure mecca.
